Welcome to Hello Kitty Island

Sunday morning it was raining when we went down for breakfast, and still raining (Jeju is an island) when we went back to our rooms to determine our game plan for the day. #SurvivingAdventures So we decided, along with our friends, to split up. The girls wanted to go to Hello Kitty World, while the boys wanted to go to the indoor range not too far from HKW.

Jeju

I like Hello Kitty, I really do. This place though was a little crazy in its Hello Kittyness. Lots of pinks! There was even a Hello Kitty Doll about 3 feet tall for sale for 360k won! Although we went there on the spur of the moment, it was fairly quick to get our tickets (about 12,000 won each) and start our exploration. Of course, since we are not planning to come back to this place (so much else to see) we have to commemorate this trip with lots of pics!

This place had a large display of dolls in the entrance, and great places to take some pictures. In a little room behind and to the left of this display, is a little history museum about the birth of Hello Kitty, Kerokeropi, and the other characters. We made our way through the building oohing and aahing over the cute displays, and fan art that was pretty amazing.

There was a large area with a library display great for a photo op, as well as a room with Hello Kitty holograms in different styles, and a Hello Kitty hologram in a separate room leading kids to dance. This section kept Lily occupied for a little bit before she got bored, and wanted to move forward.

The next floor up led to a kids’ play area where everyone was made to take off their shoes. The was a big rope obstacle course to climb on one side, and a mini wall climbing area on the other. By the time we got there, the kids were only able to play for about 10 minutes before the person watching this area sent everyone off because it was their break time. So we made our way to the Hello Kitty Café which was conveniently directly across from the play area.

Café’ Time

The Hello Kitty Café was pretty cute with the pink theme, and the Hello Kitty novelty snacks and drinks. This was something that Lily and I were able to enjoy and say that we have tried. We didn’t stay here for very long though, because it was time to meet back up with the boys.

Indoor Shooting Range (fail)

David, Gabe, and our friend went down to the shooting range to see how it would be like. Gabe was only able to shoot the pellet gun, while the other guys were able to shoot a handgun attached to a cable. The men didn’t like this because it prevented them from getting comfortable while holding this, and did not really help too much with the aiming.

Planetarium……maybe

Kimmyshop holiday

After we met up with the boys, we decided to look for the planetarium which we kept trying to call but never could get a hold of. This was a very interesting road trip, taking us through narrow roads which were at times covered in fog. These instances made it seem like we were in a horror movie! When we finally found the planetarium, it was only because I was looking at the Waze app. There wasn’t a very big sign to indicate that we were close to our destination. After carefully crossing the street and going up what looked like the driveway to the planetarium, we discovered that this place was definitely closed. We were a bit disappointed about this, but we decided that we had had enough excitement for the day and that we were going to do other things instead. We contacted our friends and made our way back to the hotel.

Although we didn’t get to do much today, other than going to Hello Kitty Island, it was still pretty exhausting. Time to get some dinner and get ready for tomorrow!
